Spring in the Garden…

Spring is in the air…We at Gallery Crafts have decided that Spring is in the air and we are surrounding ourselves in bright fresh colours. Each day brings new delights ,…the UPS guy or fastway bring boxes and with the excitement of children at christmas !!!we unveil the new stock for the shop .This morning the new Orla Kiely mugs arrived as well as some cool fashion jewellery. I also decided to bring some of our new ceramic products out to the Garden to photograph …Why ???just because it seemed a good idea ,but after breaking an Orla Kiely mug (which fell from the tree )..what can i say it wasn’t one of my finer moments!!!!
also we framed the final painting in a collection that will be exhibited in the Cornstore restaurant in cork,so its been a productive day and all is good …

Spring 2014 at Fiona Turley’s

January /February are always exciting times for retail…OK its ridiculously quiet but we do get to go to the trade shows in Ireland / England and if you are lucky Frankfurt. These trade fairs bring together the lastest trends in the gift and Craft industry.

For spring……gone are the deep tones of winter ,everything lightens up and ‘white ‘ no longer as  cold as ‘snow’ but reflects freshness, evoking holidays ,there is nothing as wonderfulas a white handbag for the summer….our latest delivery of bags brought an array of  pale spring bags ,dusky pinks, silvers, whites and soft blues as well as stronger colours .Yellow is a great trend for this year especially mixed with pale mink ,hints of yummy orange and hot pink will also bring the sunshine to your wardrobe . Much of the fashion jewellery seems to offer soft tones or ventures to the other extreme of strong bold colours.

When I go to the shows I try to think of my customers ,their styles ,personalities, I think of what I would wear ,what Dee, Mag’s ,Mary or Kit would enjoy wearing (Ps that’s the names of the fab staff at Gallery Crafts)  so if I please any of the above then I have achieved my goal which is to offer customers a variety of styles to suit all tastes.

The importance of buying Irish is obviously very important and for this reason I do my best to bring in as much Irish made or designed products as possible. In jewellery we stock Alan Ardiff , Blaithin Ennis ,Scribble & Stone ,coming soon are Aidan Symth and a few other which i will describe to as they come in .Other Irish products available at Gallery Crafts are Potter Louis Mulcahy, Colm De Ris , Wild Goose, Siobhan Steele, McNutts ( blankets) ,The Button Studio,Max Benjamin ,Orla Walsh, Torc Candles, Green Monkey, Orla Kiely,Celtic Candles and we also have a wonderful inspiring range of Ceramics sculptural pieces coming in.

Will keep you posted with new arrivals to the store as they come and my aim is to introduce you to the work and the designer/makers of true creativity that will bring style to you and your home. Check out my facebook and twitter pages to see images of all our stock.

My First Blog!!

As a first time Blogger I am not sure what catches people’s attention or interest, so I guess I will chat about my shop ,my art work and the wonderful designers and makers that I showcase here in Gallery Crafts.

The year so far….well its starts with stocktaking which is no fun, Dee who works here usually takes her holiday’s at this time but didn’t escape this year!!!! We then decided to close for a few days and get painters in…this was crazy, we didn’t realize the amount of moving or indeed the weight of the units!

January/February takes me to trade show both here and abroad. The first of which was a CHRISTMAS show. I spent 4 days in Frankfurt at a Christmas World, surrounded by Santa’s, elves, sparkle & glitter. One week after putting my own tree in the attic I am shopping for Christmas. This probably causes serious damage to my sanity!!! Although from the shop point of view everything is still fresh.

CHRISTMAS TRENDS ( in my humble opinion!) include woodland animals, Deers ,Wolves etc. Photographic images on decorations is also strong . Hints of vintage are still on trend and I spotted fabulous Antique style plates that can be hung on the wall. Seriously cool Cheetah printed tree Baubles also sparked interest and will be here for Christmas.

Everything that glistens or sparkles will ultimately be part of any Christmas story…….after all its only 317 shopping days to Christmas!!!!
